LIC of India gifts VSSM a bus to ferry hostel children to and from the schools.

When VSSM embarked on its mission to educate the children of nomadic and de-notified communities little was it aware of the challenges it would require to tackle to ensure these children cross the threshold of schools and class-rooms.  It has been a humongous task and the challenges have been both, from within and outside the communities. Nonetheless, we remained persistent and continued with our heuristic approach to bring these children to school. From enrolling the children to ashram-shalas and village schools to sensitizing the society, authorities and communities to setting up bridge-schools in settlements and now starting hostels for these children, we have tried all possible methods to make sure  these children get absorbed in the mainstream education system.

The most effective of all the above-mentioned initiatives has been the approach of setting up hostels. The concept is, the children stay with the VSSM operated hostels and are enrolled in the best of the private schools. The two hostels functioning in Ahmedabad demonstrate our philosophy of educating the children of extremely marginalized nomadic communities. As the children stay with the hostel, they attend some of the best private schools of Ahmedabad. But, the distance between hostels and schools has always been a concern. The children travelled to and from the school in vehicles that have been hired by VSSM.

A while ago, our well-wisher based in Baroda, Shri Bharatbhai Desai paid a visit to the hostel. He gathered his impressions on the daily commute issue faced by these children. Shri Desai appealed the LIC of India to support the cause. The LIC of India, decided to donate a Bus from its Golden Jubilee Fund. Apart from this the RTO Commissioner also obliged and exempted 95% of RTO tax that was required to be paid to secure the bus permit.

 We recently had a Bus dedication ceremony. It was specially attended by Shri. Venugopalji, Zonal Manager, LIC of India.  The officials from LIC were highly appreciative of the work VSSM does and has committed further assistance if required. We are glad to have amongst us friends and well-wishers like Shri Bharatbhai, who are eager to help when needed. We are thankful to have such compassionate friends walking alongside us all the time!! It is they who have been instrumental in easing our worries!!

VSSM સંચાલીત હોસ્ટેલના બાળકોને શાળામાં લાવવા લઈ જવા એલ.આઈ.સી દ્વારા બસ ભેટમાં આપવામાં આવી.

ભણતર સાથે અમારે કાંઈ લેવા દેવા નહીં તેવું માનતી વિચરતી જાતિની કેટલીયે વસાહતોમાંના બાળકોને ભણાવવાનો અમે સંકલ્પ કર્યો. શરૃઆત તંબુશાળાથી કરી અને તેમાંથી પછી હોસ્ટલ થઈ. હાલમાં vssm દ્વારા અમદાવાદમાં જ બે હોસ્ટેલ ચાલ છે. બાળકો હોસ્ટેલમાં રહીને અમદાવાદની સારામાં સારી નિશાળમાં ભણવા જાય છે.

બાળકોની હોસ્ટેલથી શાળાનું અંતર વધારે. ભાડેથી અમે વાહન બંધાવ્યું છે જે બાળકોને શાળામાં લઈ જાય છે. વડોદરામાં રહેતા vssmના શુભેચ્છક સ્વજન શ્રી ભરતભાઈ દેસાઈ સંસ્થાની મુલાકાતે આવ્યા તેમણે બાળકોને શાળામાં જવા માટે બસ વ્યવસ્થા માટે વિચાર્યું અને એલ.આઈ.સીમાં તેમણે અપીલ કરી. એલ.આઈ.સી.એ પોતાના ગોલ્ડન જ્યુબલી ફંડમાંથી બસની વ્યવસ્થા કરી આપી. બસ અર્પણ વિધી વખતે એલ.આઈ.સી.ના ઝોનલ મેનેજર શ્રી બી.વેનુગોપાલજી ખાસ ઉપસ્થિત રહ્યા. તો સાથે બસનો ભરવો આર.ટી.ઓ.ટેક્ષમાંથી આર.ટી.ઓ.કમીશનરે 95 ટકા માફી આપી. 

એલ.આઈ.સી.માંથી ઉપસ્થિત તમામ અધિકારીઓએ vssmના કામને બિરદાવ્યું અને કામમાં કોઈ પણ રીતે વધારે મદદરૃપ થઈ શકાય તો તે માટેની તત્પરા દર્શાવી. vssmના કામો સાથે ભરતભાઈ જેવા ઘણા શુભેચ્છકો જોડાઈ રહ્યા છે અને તેમના જેવા સૌ સ્વજનોના કારણે જ આ કામો થઈ રહ્યા છે તે સૌનો આ તબક્કે આભાર માનીએ છીએ.
