The children of nomadic communities have historically never been to school. It is a huge-huge challenge to bring these children to school, in fact to build the environment of learning in each settlement is a great task, right from acclimatising the children to sensitising the parents and school authorities. So when 9 children belonging to Vansfoda community were suddenly removed from the school by its principal, it sent a wave of shock and anger amidst the team of VSSM and community.
The children of 9 Vansfoda families living in Gondal had never been to school. But the pre-condition set by VSSM’s Kanubhai of not working for people whose children aren't in school compelled the parents to send their children to nearby school. In June 2016 VSSM’s Kanubhai enrolled these children in the primary school near their settlement. This nearest school was still quite a distance for the children to walk two times daily. Hence an auto-rickshaw to ferry the children to school was hired at the cost of Rs. 300 per child.
However, the teachers did not like these children attending school, four days later the children were removed from the school. The young children had to walk back home. This continued for another 5 days. The children went to school but the teachers would remove them from classes and send them back. It did not feel right hence one of the members from the community Hameerbhai informed Kanubhai about this daily scenario. Kanubhai accompanied with the parents reached the school to meet the principal and the reasons he listed for removing the children were shocking and unbelievable.
The admissions were late (after the completion of admission dates)
The children are filthy and duffer. They would spoil the school results.
They have no birth-certificates, nor do they have any school dress
After hearing what the principal had to say Kanubhai just couldn’t take anymore. He gave his peace of mind to the school authorities who then agreed to allow the children into the school…..
What more can we say of the way systems work and the multiple issues the team of VSSM is tackles on daily basis… it is for the team we have that we can redress such unwarranted yet complex issues….
ગોંડલમાં રહેતા વાંસફોડા સમુદાયના 9 બાળકોને પ્રાથમિકશાળાના આચાર્યેએ અચાનક શાળાએ આવવાની ના પાડી દીધી. અત્યાર સુધી વાંસફોડા પરિવારના બાળકો શાળામાં જતા નહોતા પણ VSSMના કાર્યકર કનુભાઈએ આ બાળકોને જુન 2016ના રોજ જામવાડી પ્રાથમિકશાળામાં પ્રવેશ અપાવ્યો હતો. શાળા વસાહતથી દૂર હતી પહેલાં તો વાંસફોડા પરિવારો બાળકોને મોકલવા તૈયાર નહોતા પણ જે વસાહતમાં બાળકો ના ભણે ત્યાં અમે કામ નથી કરતા તેવા કનુભાઈના નિયમથી તેઓ થોડા ડર્યા અને બાળકોને ભણવા બેસાડ્યા. વસાહતથી શાળા દૂર એટલે રૃા.300 પ્રત્યેક બાળકના એમ રૃા.1800ના માસીકભાડાથી તેમણે રીક્ષા બાંધી.
પણ શાળાના શિક્ષકોને આ બાળકો ગમે નહીં. એટલે બાળકોને ચારેક દિવસ બેસવા દઈને પછી શાળામાં ગયેલા બાળકોને કાઢી મુક્યા. નાના બાળકો શાળાએથી ચાલતા ઘરે આવ્યા. બીજા દિવસે પાછા શાળામાં મોકલ્યા તો પણ પાછા મોકલી દીધા. સળંગ પાંચેક દિવસ આવું થયું એટલે વસાહતના હમીરભાઈએ કાર્યકર કનુભાઈને જાણ કરી.
કનુભાઈ વાલી અને બાળકો સાથે શાળામાં ગયા તો આચાર્યએ આ બાળકોને એડમીશન સામે જે કારણો દર્શાવ્યા તે દુખદ હતા.
1. ‘એડમીશનનો સમય પુરો થઈ ગયો પછી તમે બાળકોને મોકલ્યા એટલે અમે ના લઈ શકીએ.
2. આ બાળકો ગંધાતા છે. ઠોઠ છે અમારી નિશાળનું રીઝલ્ટ બગાડશે.
3. જનમના દાખલા નથી..
4. સ્કુલડ્રેસ નથી
કનુભાઈએ આચાર્ય સાથે શાળાના આખા સ્ટાફને બરાબર ખખડાવ્યો ત્યારે જતા તેમણે બાળકોને શાળામાં બેસાડવા કમને રાજીપો વ્યક્ત કર્યો.
કેવું તંત્ર છે? VSSMના કાર્યકર કેવા કેવા ફલક પર લડી રહ્યા છે. નિત નવા પડકારો ઝીલનાર આવા સરસ કાર્યકરો અમારી સાથે છે જેનો આનંદ છે અને તેમના કારણે જ આ કામો શક્ય બને છે.
જે બાળકોને શાળામાં ભણવાની ના પાડી તે બાળકો તેમના માતા પિતા સાથે..
