The  June of 2015 saw the opening of a nomadic girls hostel right behind the VSSM office in Ahmedabad.   This hostel has girls from extremely vulnerable and marginalised nomadic communities staying with it. While they stay in the hostel here, they school at one of the leading schools of Ahmedabad,  the H. B. Kapadia High School. On 26th January the H.B. Kapadia Group had organised an art competition for the students of various H. B. Kapadia schools spread across Ahmedabad city. 7 girls from VSSM hostel also participated in this competition that was held at the Alpha One Mall. 

By participating in such events the girls are exposed to a different learning environment and acquire exposure that is required for acclimatising themselves to living in a environment that differs from the one they have lived in until now….

vssm સંચાલિત હોસ્ટેલની દીકરીઓએ ચિત્ર સ્પર્ધામાં ભાગ લીધો.

vssm દ્વારા અમદાવાદમાં વિચરતી જાતિની દીકરીઓ માટે હોસ્ટેલ શરુ કરવામાં આવી છે. જેમાં ૩૫ દીકરીઓ ભણે છે. આ દીકરીઓ અમદાવાદની ખુબ જ સારી કહી શકાય એવી એચ.બી. કાપડિયા સ્કૂલમાં અભ્યાસ કરી રહી છે. એચ.બી. કાપડિયા ગ્રુપની અમદાવાદમાં ઘણી સ્કૂલો આવેલી છે. આ તમામ સ્કૂલોના વિદ્યાર્થીઓ માટે આલ્ફા મોલમાં ચિત્ર સ્પર્ધાનું આયોજન કરવામાં આવ્યું હતું. જેમાં આપણી હોસ્ટેલની ૭ દીકરીઓએ ભાગ લીધો હતો.

આ દીકરીઓનું મહત્તમ એક્સપોઝર થાય અને એ પોતાના ભાવી માટે સ્વપ્ન જોતી થાય એ કરવાનું અમે કરી રહ્યા છીએ. સમાજના સૌ આ કામમાં સહયોગ કરી રહ્યાં છે જે માટે અમે એ સૌના આભારી છીએ.

A day trip to Manav Parivar-Matar for our girls staying at our Ahmedabad hostel was organised recently. The girls had a wonderful time amidst nature. They enjoyed every bit of the opportunity they got to enjoy the open space and nature, they giggled, collected flowers and had a wonderful opportunity to observe and understand the functioning to the medical camp. They met the patients coming tot he camp. 

We are glad things are gradually shaping up as desired for our girls. The number of patrons and friends for the Ahmedabad hostel is also growing consistently. Namrataben and members of Satsang Parivar never miss an opportunity to shower their love on the girls, with  Dhirendrabhai of Manav Parivar the girls have established such honest rapport  that without hesitation they demand from him whatever they want. Pragneshbhai continues to go and shop every little thing the hostel requires, while Kiritbhai has ensured that the store room of the hostel never goes empty - he had maintained continuous supply of food, grains  and kitchen essentials for the hostel. 

The joy it brings to see a growing family of friends and well wishers is difficult to express here. Hope one day the entire universe becomes our family..

Vssm દ્વારા અમદાવાદમાં ચાલતી વિચરતી જાતિની દીકરીઓની હોસ્ટેલમાંથી દીકરીઓને એક દિવસ માટે માનવ પરિવાર – માતરની મુલાકાતે લઈને ગયા. ત્યાં કુદરતના ખોળે સૌ મનભરીને રમ્યા અને ખુબ બધા ફૂલ એકઠા કર્યા, માથામાં નાખ્યા, કેમ્પમાં આવતા દર્દીને મળ્યા.

અમારી આ દીકરીઓ હવે સરસ ગોઠવાઈ ગઈ છે. આ દીકરીઓના સ્વજનોની સંખ્યા પણ અમદાવાદમાં વધવા માંડી છે. નમ્રતાબેન અને સતસંગ પરિવારના સૌ તો હમેશાં કોઈને કોઈ નિમિત્તે આ દીકરીઓ પ્રત્યે એમનું વહાલ દર્શાવે છે તો માનવ પરિવારના ધીરેન્દ્રભાઈને તો દીકરીઓ ‘હવે આવો ત્યારે આ લાવજો.. તે લાવજો’ એમ હકથી કહેવા માંડી છે..  પ્રજ્ઞેશભાઈએ તો નાનામાં નાની ચિંતા કરી બધી વસ્તુ જાતે જઈને ખરીદાવી છે અને કિરીટભાઈએ હોસ્ટેલનું અનાજ ખૂટવા નથી દીધું.. કેવા વહાલાં અને પ્રિય સ્વજનો. આનંદ આનંદ અમારો પરિવાર મોટો થઇ રહ્યો છે. એક દિવસ આખું વિશ્વ પરિવાર બની જાય એવી ઈશ્વરને પ્રાર્થના

Have you ever noticed that tens of thousand of children born in rural India celebrate their birthday on 1st June!! Surprised?? Well that is what the teachers and principals of the schools do to enrol children whose parents aren’t aware of the child’s date of birth. They write child’s date of birth 1st June.  This is a easy way out for the school authorities who otherwise struggle to find birthdates so as to match them with cut of age for first grade admissions that begin through out Gujarat from mid- June every year. 

So here we have two distinct sections - One where the parent know the date of birth, have registered the birth of their child and celebrate the birth dates with great pomp and show.  Than there is this another group where the parent is unaware of the exact date but remembers the time of the year/season the child was born or the Hindu calendar date but not the year of birth. The children from the nomadic communities belong to the later group. Born in the woods or  makeshift homes,  to the parents who constantly wander the nomadic children nevi have their births registered because the parents aren’t aware of the importance of getting the birth registered. In instances where the parents do go to get the birth registered the Panchyats refuse to register because they are unwilling to process rest of the citizenry documents for the family from the village. Earlier this was not a major issue but now since birth certificate has become mandatory, not registering births is a becoming an issue.

The child never gets to know her actual date of birth and continues to celebrate on 1st June. 60% of children studying with the Bridge Schools, Balghars and Hostels of VSSM celebrate their birth dates on 1st June. We make sure the children  get to celebrate their birthdates with fanfare and the way each child would like to. But since  the hostels and schools remained closed for vacation from April to 15th June the children with birthdates on 1st June were left out and those have it after 15th June for to enjoy their birthdates. The children did feel left out. So the Baldosts came up with a novel idea. They spoke to parents and found out the season or festival during which the child was born. Nor each child with VSSM gets to celebrate his/her birthday. We make sure it becomes a special day for them, they were new clothes, blessings are showered, beautiful birthday songs play in the background and they pledge to work hard for their better tomorrow. 

ઋતુચક્રને અનુલક્ષીને દિવસો નક્કી કર્યા અને જન્મ દિવસની ઊજવણી શરૂ કરી

એક બાજુ એવા પરિવારો છે કે જેમના કુટુંબમાં બાળકના જન્મનો અવસર ગામમાં મીઠાઈ વહેંચીને ઊજવાય છે. જન્મની તારીખ યાદ રાખીને તેની દર વર્ષે ઊજવણી થાય છે અને તેમાં બાળકની ઉતરોત્તર પ્રગતિના આશીર્વાદ અપાય છે. જયારે બીજી બાજુ સદીઓથી વિચરણ કરતા આ પરિવારમાં વનવગડામાં, ગામના પાધરે, એકાદ આડશ પાછળ તબીબ સહાય કે દાયણની મદદ વગર એક વધુ જીવનો ઉમેરો થાય છે. હરખ તો અહીંયા પણ છે પણ મીઠાઈ સ્વરૂપે હરખ વ્યક્ત કરવા પૈસા નથી હોતા. બાળકના જનમ્યાની તિથિ કે તારીખની ય ક્યાં ખબરે હોય. કેવણઋતુનું આછું સ્મરણ હોય. જે ગામમાં પડાવ હોય તે ગામની પંચાયતમાં જઇને તલાટી પાસે પોતાના વહાલસોયાની નોંધણી કરાવવાનીયે ખબર નાં હોય અને હોય તોયે કઈ પંચાયત નોંધણી કરે? કારણ નોંધણી થાય તો ગામમાં રહેતાં હોવાનો આધાર મળે એટલે જન્મતારીખ જ નાં હોય. પહેલાં તો ભણાવવાનીયે ક્યાં ચિંતા હતી પણ હવે બાળકોને ભણાવવા છે અને એટલે શાળામાં દાખલ કરે છે.

શાળામાં દાખલ થનાર આવા વનવગડામાં જન્મેલા જેટલા પણ બાળકો હોય તે તમામની જન્મતારીખ શાળાના માસ્તર સરકારી નિયમ મુજબ ૧ જાન્યુઆરી કે ૧ જુન લખી દે. સંસ્થા દ્વારા કાર્યરત હોસ્ટેલ અને બાલઘરમાં ભણતા ૬૦ ટકા ઉપરાંત બાળકોની જન્મતારીખ ઉપર જણાવ્યા પ્રમાણેની જ ૧ જુન... બાળક તો ખરાઈ કરતું નથી ૧ જુને સાચે જ એ જન્મ્યા છે એમ એ માને. હોસ્ટેલમાં ભણતા અમારા આ બાળકોના જન્મની અમે માનભેર ઉજવણી કરીએ. એ દિવસે બાળક માટે ખાસ દિવસ બની રહે તેની પૂરી કાળજી લઈએ. પણ અમે જેમના પણ જનમ દિવસે ઉજવીએ એ ૧૫ જુન પછી જન્મેલા બાળકો કેમ કે હોસ્ટેલનું વેકેશન ૧૫ જુન પછી ખુલે. એટલે મોટાભાગના કિસ્સામાં સાચી જનમતારીખ વાળા બાળકના જનમ દિવસની ઉજવણી થાય અને ૧ જુન વાળા રહી જાય. કશું કહે નહીં પણ એક મૂંઝવણ એમને થાય.... બાલદોસ્તોએ આ મૂંઝવણ જાણી અને વચગાળાના ઉપાય તરીકે તહેવાર, ઋતુચક્રને અનુલક્ષીને દિવસો નક્કી કર્યા અને જન્મ દિવસની ઉજવણી શરૂ કરી . જન્મદિવસની નવપલ્લવિત સવારે બધા બાળકો શુભેચ્છાઓની વર્ષા વરસાવે. બાળકને નવા વસ્ત્રો પહેરાવાય અને મધુર ગીતો વચ્ચે બાળક આવતી કાલનો સંકલ્પ લે.. ખૂબ ભણીશું.. આગળ વધીશું અને સૌના કલ્યાણમાં નિમિત્ત બનીશું...

VSSM operates a Balghar for the children of Nomadic Communities in the Vavdi village of Rajkot. The Baldost Kanubhai has done some beautiful work in education the children of this village. As space is a constraint the Balghar functioned from under a tree so come rains and how to function became an issue. The children got concerned thinking that if it rains Kanubhai wouldn’t come to teach them!!! In fact,  Kanubhai and the parents had been contemplating of moving the Balghar to some place else during the monsoons. 

Kanubhai was on leave for 20th and 21st June. He called up to inform the kids, “When will you come Saheb??” they inquired.

“Monday” replied Kanubhai.

“Saheb, come on Tuesday, we want to show you something, don’t come before that,” ordered the kids…

When Kanubhai reached the village on Tuesday, what he saw took him by a complete surprise, “Ben, my children and their parents created a shade for me to run the school, they contributed money and decorated it with balloons, ribbons and confetti. They asked me to inaugurate the school, inspite of my refusing it they forced me. I wonder from where my kids learned all these!!” narrated a bewildered Kanubhai. 

Its just a shade but creating a venue so that their children can study is a huge leap forward for parents who until now never gave importance to the education of their children. We couldn’t be more happier, hope to have more such examples ….

vssm દ્વારા ચાલતા બાલઘરના બાળકોએ ભણવા માટે જાતે બેઠક વ્યવસ્થા ગોઠવી..

રાજકોટના વાવડી ગામમાં વિચરતી જાતિના બાળકોને ભણાવવાનું કામ vssm કરે છે. બાલદોસ્ત કનુભાઈએ શરૂઆતમાં આ બાળકોને ઝાડ નીચે બેસાડીને ભણાવ્યા. અત્યાર સુધી આ રીતે ભણવામાં વાંધો નહોતો પણ હવે ચોમાસું શરુ થયું. બાળકોને ચિંતા થઇ કે વરસાદ આવે એ દિવસે એમના સાહેબ કનુભાઈ એમને ભણાવવા નહી આવે કારણ ચાલુ વરસાદમાં બેસવાની વ્યવસ્થા નથી.. કનુભાઈ અને બાળકોના વાલીઓ પણ બાળકોને બેસવાની વ્યવસ્થા અંગે વિચારે. કનુભાઈ તા.૨૦-૨૧ જુનના રોજ બે દિવસ રજા ઉપર હતા. બાળકોએ એમને ફોનથી પૂછ્યું, ‘સાહેબ તમે ક્યારે આવશો’

‘સોમવારે’

‘સાહેબ મંગળવારે આવજો ને. અમારે તમને કંઇક બતાવવાનું છે. વહેલાં ના આવતાં’

કનુભાઈ ને કંઈ સમજાયું નહિ પણ બાળકોએ કહ્યું છે એટલે એમણે મંજૂર રાખ્યું અને મંગળવારે બપોરના બાળકોને ભણાવવાના રાબેતા મુજબના સમયે એ પહોચ્યાં. અને જે જોયું, એ અંગે એમના જ શબ્દોમાં, ‘બહેન મારા બાળકો અને અને વાલીઓએ મળીને સરસ બેઠક વ્યવસ્થા કરી છે. દરેક બાળકે રૂ.૧૦ -૧૦ મા- બાપ પાસેથી લઈને એમની આ નિશાળને ફુગ્ગા, રીબીન વગેરેથી શણગારી છે. અને મારા હાથે એમણે આ શાળાનું ઉદઘાટન પણ કરાવ્યું. મેં ઉદઘાટન માટે ના પડી તો એમણે કહ્યું, ના સાહેબ એ તમારે જ કરવાનું છે’ હું ખુબ રાજી છું બેન મારા બાળકો આ બધું ક્યાંથી શીખ્યા સમજાતું નથી પણ એમણે એમની રીતે બાલઘર બનાવ્યું, (વાલીઓના સહયોગથી) ઉદઘાટન કર્યું અને વાલીઓ પણ આમાં સહભાગી બન્યાં.’ વસાહતના લોકોએ પોતાના બાળકોને બેસવા માટે આમ તો એક છાપરું જ બનાવ્યું છે પણ એમની એમના બાળકોને ભણાવવાની ચિંતા જોઈ રાજી થવાય છે. બસ વિચરતી જાતિના તમામ બાળકો ભણતા થાય એ જ અપેક્ષા ...

"So that they are treated with love and care  and do not face discrimination…” was the sole reason that prompted us to begin  hostels for nomadic children.

How to bring the children of nomadic communities to school was an extremely pressing issue for VSSM when it began working with the communities almost a decade ago. It began with enrolling  children from these communities to hostels and Ashram Shalas functioning in various parts of Gujarat. 

In the year 2011 VSSM enrolled 7 girls in a government aided hostel run by an organisation in Dodiya village of Surendranagar district. Some how we got a  feeling that the decision of enrolling the girls was forced upon them. The authorities and the warden both did not look prepared to host these girls but for the reasons best to their knowledge they did not refuse admission to the girls. All the time,  for three days the girls stayed there, we felt that they weren’t welcoming enough and heisted to embrace the girls. From the moment they walked in the hostel  the girls faced discriminatory behaviour from the authorities and fellow residents. VSSM’s Ilaben,  a Baldost,  who taught these girls was accompanying them so as to help them settle down. Ilaben was uncomfortable with the way these girls were treated by the warden. On the fourth day when she had to leave the hostel, she called us up saying, “ I don’t feel like leaving these girls here!! They aren’t received well here, in such circumstances whom to trust them with is the question nagging me!!” After learning in detail about the entire situation we decided to call the girls back in just three days. 

The episode made us believe that things hadn’t changed a bit since  2006-07 the year when we had enrolled a substantial number of nomadic children in various hostels and all of them came back within few weeks of enrolment.  6 years down the line  the situation remained the same.In any hostel that we enrolled the children from nomadic communities they faced same discriminatory behaviour from the authorities as well as fellow hostel mates. 

What next was the  question staring at us?? The Baldosts advised us to start our very own residential facility where each child is treated with love, care and dignity. We shared this thought with our well-wishers who whole heartedly accepted the suggestion. 

The Doliya Girls Hostel began with 7 girls in a rented premises at Jain Heetwardhak Mandal. Today 69 girls are staying with the Doliya hostel and studying at the government school in Doliya, the entire expense of which is supported by The Giant Group of Central Mumbai and whenever needed respected Shri. Chandrakantbhai Gogri also extends his support.

વર્ષ-૨૦૧૧માં સુરેન્દ્રનગર જિલ્લાનાં ડોળિયાગામમાં એક સંસ્થા દ્વારા સરકારી ગ્રાન્ટથી ચાલતી હોસ્ટેલમાં વિચરતા સમુદાયની ૭ દીકરીઓને આપણે દાખલ કરી. આમ તો પરાણે દાખલ કરી એમ કહીએ તો ચાલે. હોસ્ટેલના ગૃહમાતા કે વહીવટ કરનારાને આ દીકરીઓને રાખવાનું જરાય મન નહીં, પણ તે વખતે તેઓ ના ન પાડી શક્યા. પણ આ દીકરીઓ સાથેનો તેમનો વ્યવહાર ભેદભાવપૂર્ણ હતો. દીકરીઓ ત્રણ જ દિવસ રહી. સાથે તેમના બાલદોસ્ત ઇલાબહેન પણ હતા. ઇલાબહેન દીકરીઓ સાથે થઇ રહેલો વ્યવહાર જોતા હતા. ત્રીજા દિવસે દીકરીઓને મૂકીને એમને પરત આવવાનું હતું. તેમણે ફોન કરીને કહ્યું, ‘ દીકરીઓને મૂકીને આવવામાં મારુ મન નથી માનતું! આ લોકો તો આપણી આ દીકરીઓને સ્વીકારતા જ નથી. આવામાં આમના ભરોસે દીકરીઓને મૂકીને કેમ આવું?’ ઇલાબહેન પાસેથી સર્વ સ્થિતિ જાણ્યા પછી આપણે દીકરીઓને પરત બોલાવી. વિચરતા સમુદાયો સાથે કામ શરૂ કર્યું તે અરસામાં એટલે કે વર્ષ ૨૦૦૬-૦૭માં પણ વિવિધ હોસ્ટેલમાં દાખલ કરેલા બાળકો સાથે આવો જ વ્યવહાર હતો. એટલે જ એ વખતે પણ બાળકો હોસ્ટેલમાં રહ્યા નહોતા, આજે એજ પરિસ્થિતિનું પુનરાવર્તન થઇ રહ્યું હતું. હવે શું કરવું તે પ્રશ્ન હતો. બાળકો સાથે કામ કરતા તમામ બાલદોસ્તોએ આપણી પોતાની જ હોસ્ટેલ કરવાનું સૂચન કર્યું. જ્યાં દરેક બાળકને પ્રેમ મળે કોઈ ભેદ નાં હોય.. આ સૂચના આપણા કામોમાં મદદરૂપ થતા તમામ સ્વજનો સમક્ષ મુક્યું. સૌએ તે વધાવી લીધું અને ડોળિયામાં જ જૈન હિતવર્ધક મંડળની ભાડાની જગ્યામાં જ ૭ દીકરીઓથી હોસ્ટેલની શરૂઆત થઇ. આજે તેમાં ૬૯ દીકરીઓ ભણી રહી છે. હોસ્ટેલનો તમામ ખર્ચ જાયન્ટ ગ્રુપ ઓફ સેન્ટ્રલ મુંબઈ એ ઉપાડી લીધો છે. જરૂર પડે આદરણીય શ્રી ચંદ્રકાંતભાઈ ગોગરી પણ તેમાં સહાયભૂત થાય છે.

દીકરીઓ આપણી હોસ્ટેલમાં રહે છે અને ભણવા ગામમાં આવેલી સરકારી શાળામાં જાય છે.

Bajaniya community is one the largest Nomadic Communities in Gujarat. Extremely deprived in all aspects -educational, social and economical. Rigid mindsets, unorthodox practices, ignorance, alcohol abuse, neglect are things one can easily associate with Bajanya Community of Gujarat. One of the most rampant practice this community follows is of divorce and remarriage. It is common to see men and women marrying as many as four times in this community. While it gives a right of choice to the couple the children from all the relationships are the ones who suffer the adverse impact of this highly liberated  practice. The father can’t take the responsibility if his next partner doesn’t wish and so is with the mother hence most of the times the grandparents from either side are left to look after the kids. Marriage and remarriage also means the women do not adopt family planning methods. 

Yash is the eldest of the four children  of Kanubhai Bajanya a resident of Vanod village of Surendranagar’s Patdi block. Yash and his three younger sisters are were left to be fended by their father when their mother walked out of the house due to some conflict with their father. The parents eventually divorced but Kanubhai chose to take care of his children. The children endured the trauma of living without their mother.  Yash an extremely  bright and intelligent child experienced the pain the most cause he was the eldest and much aware of the consequences. However, Kanubhai played the role of both the parents and provided all the care and love the children required.

When the family came in to contact with Vicharta Samuday Samarthan Manch - VSSM we decided to enrol Yash in Hariyala Gurukul. Yash excelled in all  the curricular as well as the co-curricular activities here. The younger two girls are studying with Doliya Hostel of VSSM. Kanubhai wants to bring about a change in his community especially the practice of divorce and remarriages. “I want my kids to study well and be examples in my community. I want to be instrumental in bringing about a change in some rigid practices in our community. It pains me immensely to see any child remaining deprived of a mothers love and care. I have witnessed the pain of my children and do not want other kids experience the same,” shares Kanubhai. 

Apart from Yash the other kids of nomadic communities that we have enrolled with Hariyada Gurukul are Hardik in standard 5th, Sachin in 10th grade, Shailesh in 6th grade and Bharat in 10 grade. We are thankful to Shri. Chandrakantbhai Mataliya, Jitubhai Gandhi, Vinodbhai Bhagat, Kalpanaben Shah and Abhay Bhagat for sponsoring the education of these children.

યશ સુરેન્દ્રનગર જિલ્લાનાં પાટડી તાલુકાના વણોદગામનો વતની. કનુભાઈ બજાણીયાના ચાર સંતાનોમાં સૌથી મોટો યશ અને તેના પછી ત્રણેય બહેનો નાની. યશની મમ્મીને તેના પિતા સાથે અણબનાવ થતાં તેણે છૂટાછેડા લઇ લીધા અને બાળકો કનુભાઈ સાથે રહ્યા. ભણવામાં તેજસ્વી

Hariyala ગુરુકુળમાં ભણતા પાંચ વિદ્યાર્થી

યશને આપણે હરિયાળા ગુરુકુળમાં ભણવા દાખલ કર્યો. ગુરુકુળમાં આયોજિત વિવિધ સ્પર્ધામાં અને ભણવામાં યશ અવ્વલ છે. માતા મુકીને ગઈ તેનાથી એ ખુબ પરેશાન હતો પણ કનુભાઈની હુંફથી તે સ્વસ્થ થયો. બજાણીયા સમાજમાં બાળલગ્નનું અને છૂટાછેડાનું પ્રમાણ વધારે. પતિ –પત્ની કેટલો સમય સાથે રહેશે તે નક્કી નહોવાના કારણે સ્ત્રીઓ કુટુંબ નિયોજન ન અપનાવે. વળી એક સ્ત્રી કે પુરુષના બે થી ચાર વાર લગ્ન અને છૂટાછેડા થાય તો પણ આ ઘટના આખા સમાજ માટે ખુબ સામાન્ય ગણાય. પણ આ બધાની વિપરીત અસર બાળકો પર થાય. બાળક થયા પછીના છૂટાછેડામાં બાળક કોની સાથે રહેશે તે નક્કી ન થાય. બાળકને દાદા-દાદી કે નાના-નાની પોતાની પાસે રાખે અને માં-બાપ બીજે લગ્ન કરે.. કનુભાઈએ બાળકોની જવાબદારી સ્વીકારી. યશ ગુરુકુળમાં અને તેમની બન્ને દીકરીઓ આપણી ડોળીયા હોસ્ટેલમાં ભણે છે. કનુભાઈ કહે છે એમ,” મારા સમાજને આ બધી નીરક્ષરતામાંથી બહાર લાવવો છે. મારા બાળકોને સારું ભણાવી સમાજમાં ઉદાહરણરૂપ બનાવવા છે. કોઈ પણ બાળકનું બાળપણ માં વગરનું ના જાય તે માટે સમાજમાં જાગૃતિ આવે તે માટે પણ પ્રયત્ન કરું છું. જેમાં મારા બાળકો આધાર બન્યા છે.”

હરિયાળા ગુરુકુળમાં યશની સાથે હાર્દિક ધો.૫, સચીન ધો.૧૦, શૈલેશ ધો.૬ અને ભારત ધો. ૧૦માં ભણી રહ્યા છે. આ બાળકોનું ભણવાનું જેમના કારણે થઇ રહ્યું છે તેવા શ્રી ચંદ્રકાંતભાઈ માટલીયા , શ્રી જીતુભાઈ ગાંધી , શ્રી વિનોદભાઈ ભગત, શ્રી કલ્પાબેન શાહ, શ્રી અભય ભગતના અમે આભારી છીએ.  

Right To Education For Vadee Communities Children By VSSM

Nareshnath Vadee clears his 8th grade with a flying colours - scoring 93.39%

Intelligent, smart, hard-working, enthusiastic is how we would describe Nareshnath Vadee an exceptionally brilliant boy from one of the most marginalised nomadic communities the Vadee - Snake Charmers of India. The enforcement of the Wildlife Protection Act left huge number of Vadee population throughout India without any livelihood. No alternate sources or skills of earning income has brought these community to the threshold of abject poverty and deprivation. The Vadee community families have retorted to begging to sustain themselves.

Hameernath Vadee, father of Nareshnath,  a very skilled and knowledgeable snake charmer lost the profession he grew up practicing  once the Wildlife Protection Act came into existence. Earning daily meal became a challenge for him and the families of his community. 8 years ago when VSSM began working with these families, the foremost  thing it did was begin a Bridge School for the children in this Vadee settlement. In the beginning whenever the parents set out to beg the children would go along but gradually VSSM pushed parents to stop this practice of taking the children along. The children had to stay back and continue studying. This helped a lot because it provided consistency to the kids who had a strong desire to learn and move forward in life. Apart fro Naresh, Hameernath has other sons. The eldest could never go to school, he studied for a while with VSSM Bridge School but soon had to become an earning member of the family. He refused to accompany his father on begging expeditions hence VSSM’s Shardaben got him a job at a shop in the town.  Hameernath’s daughter’s were already married and living with their husband.  

Nareshnath and Ajit the youngest of the lot were both brilliant and hard-working. Both wanted to continue with their schooling but their father wasn’t very enthused about the idea. Basically he did not have money to afford even basic elementary education of these boys. So when VSSM initiated ANAND hostel in Tharad, Nareshnath and Ajit got enrolled with the facility. The boys just flourished with the continuous guidance they received at the hostel.  This was much evident with this year’s result where Nareshnath scored 93.38% marks. His father says, “ I have no means to educate them, they’ll study till you support, later its  God wishes!!” For now we are determined to educate Naresh and Ajit all the way, till they want to study. 

Naresh is gifted child, he recently made a helicopter  model and gifted it to Rashminbhai, VSSM’s friend, philosopher and guide, who was visiting the ANAND hostel. 

At this juncture we would like to thank respected Shri. Chandrakantbhai Gogri for adopting ANAND hostel. Chandrakantbhai thanks a million, without your support ANAND wouldn’t have become a reality.

નરેશનાથ વાદી ધોરણ ૮માં મેળવ્યા ૯૩.૩૯ ટકા

નરેશનાથ વાદી ધોરણ ૮માં ૯૩.૩૯ % સાથે પાસ થયો. નરેશના પિતા હમીરનાથ નાથવાદીનો પરંપરાગત વ્યવસાય સાપના ખેલ બતાવી લોકોને મનોરંજનની સાથે સાથે સાપની જાતો અંગેનું જ્ઞાન આપવાનો પણ ‘વાઇલ્ડ લાઈફ પ્રોટેક્શન એક્ટ’ આવતાં સાપના ખેલ કરવા પર પ્રતિબંધ આવ્યો. હમીરનાથ અને થરાદમાં રહેતાં અન્ય નાથવાદી ભિક્ષા માંગીને પોતાનો ગુજારો કરવા માંડ્યા.

હમીરનાથને બાળકો ભણે કે ના ભણે એનાથી કંઈ ફરક ના પડે. રોજ રોજની માથાકૂટમાંથી ઊંચા આવે તો એ બીજું કંઈ વિચારી શકેને? vssm દ્વારા આ વસાહતમાં ૮ વર્ષ પહેલાં બાલઘર શરૂ કર્યું હતું અને તમામ બાળકો એમાં ભણવા આવતાં.એ સમયે માં-બાપ ફરવા(માંગવા) જાય ત્યારે બાળકોને પણ સાથે લઈને જતા. પણ ધીમે ધીમે આપણે એ બંધ કરાવ્યું અને બાળકો નિયમિત શાળાએ જવા માંડ્યા. 

નરેશ અને અજીત પરિવારમાં નાના. બાકી મોટો ભાઈ આપણા બાલઘરમાં થોડું ભણ્યો પછી એના પિતા હમીરનાથે એને ભિક્ષા માંગવા પોતાની સાથે લઇ જવાનું શરુ કર્યું પણ એણે ભીખ નહિ માંગે એમ સ્પસ્ટ જણાવ્યું. vssmના કાર્યકર શારદાબહેને એને એક દુકાનમાં નોકરીએ રખાવ્યો. બહેનો તો પરણીને ક્યારનીયે સાસરે જતી રહી હતી..

 નરેશ અને અજીત ભણવામાં ખુબ હોશિયાર પણ હમીરનાથ એનાં ભણવા પાછળ ખર્ચ કરવા તૈયાર નહિ. મૂળ તો આર્થિક હાલત જ એટલી ખરાબ એમાં એ પણ શું કરે. થરાદમાં vssm દ્વારા આનંદ છાત્રાલય શરૂ કર્યું. નરેશ અને અજીત ત્યાં ભણવા આવ્યા. ટેકનીક બાબતોમાં પણ બન્ને ખુબ હોશિયાર. થોડા સમય પહેલાં vssmના શુભેચ્છક સ્વજન એવા શ્રી રશ્મિનભાઈ સાથે હોસ્ટેલની મુલાકાતે જવાનું થયું ત્યારે નરેશે એમને હેલીકોપ્ટર બનાવીને ભેટ આપ્યું. જે ફોટોમાં જોઈ શકાય છે.. આ નરેશ ધો.૮માં ખુબ સારા ગુણ સાથે પાસ થયો. એના બાપા કહે છે ‘મારી તાકાત નથી એને ભણાવવાની તમે ભણાવશો ત્યાં સુધી એને ભણવા દઈશ બાકી હરિ ઈચ્છા.... જયારે નરેશની ઈચ્છા ખુબ ભણવાની છે અને અમે પણ એની ઈચ્છા હશે ત્યાં સુધી ભણાવીશું... 

આનંદ હોસ્ટેલ જેમણે દતક લીધી છે એવા આદરણીય શ્રી ચંદ્રકાંતભાઈ ગોગરીના અમે આભારી છીએ એમની મદદ વગર આ બધું થવું અશક્ય હતું.
